Frequently asked questions.
Everything you need to know about working with Nextmark.ai.
Getting Started
What kind of work does Nextmark.ai offer?
Nextmark.ai connects subject matter experts with AI companies that need high-quality training data. The work involves evaluating AI-generated content, answering questions in your area of expertise, rating the quality of model outputs, and creating examples that help AI systems learn to reason correctly. Tasks are structured and substantive — typically 20-60 minutes each — and require real domain knowledge to complete well.
Who is eligible to apply?
Anyone with verifiable professional expertise in a relevant field. This includes practicing physicians, attorneys, engineers, research scientists, financial analysts, translators, linguists, and other specialists. Academic credentials plus real-world application is the ideal combination. You need to be 18 or older and legally eligible to work as a contractor in your country.
Do I need AI experience?
No. Your domain knowledge is what matters. The AI context is explained as part of the role orientation after you are matched. The tasks are designed to be approachable by experts who have never worked with AI systems. What you are providing is expert judgment — the AI component is the output you are evaluating, not a prerequisite skill.
Is this available worldwide?
Yes, Nextmark.ai operates internationally. Roles are available to contractors in most countries. Some specific roles may have geographic or language requirements based on the AI applications being trained. Payment is handled via standard international transfer methods. You should verify that contractor income from digital services is permissible under your local tax and labor laws.
Is this employment or contracting?
This is independent contractor work, not employment. You are not an employee of Nextmark.ai or any of the AI companies we work with. You set your own hours, work on your own equipment, and are responsible for your own taxes. You will be asked to sign a contractor agreement and NDA before starting. There are no benefits, and there is no employment relationship.
The Screening Process
How long does screening take?
The AI interview takes 20-25 minutes. The case study takes 30-45 minutes. Both can be completed at your convenience — there are no scheduled times. Results are delivered within 48 hours of submitting both. From start to result, the typical timeline is 2-3 days.
What is the AI interview like?
It is a voice-based conversation with an AI system that adapts its questions based on your responses. It is not a test of AI knowledge — it is a structured exploration of your domain expertise. The system evaluates depth of knowledge, communication clarity, and the ability to reason through complex scenarios. It runs on any device with a microphone and can be taken at any time within 7 days of receiving the link.
What is the case study?
A 30-45 minute written exercise presenting a realistic scenario from your discipline. You are asked to analyze the scenario, identify relevant issues, and explain your reasoning. There is no single correct answer. Reviewers are looking for the depth and precision of your analysis, not whether you arrive at a predetermined conclusion. You have 72 hours from receipt to complete and submit it.
What if I fail?
You will receive specific feedback explaining what did not meet the standard. The most common reasons are communication clarity in the voice interview (not domain knowledge itself), insufficient detail or precision in the case study, and technical issues with the recording. You can reapply after 30 days. Many of our current contributors did not pass on their first attempt.
Can I retake the screening?
You can reapply 30 days after a failed screening. The process starts fresh — new interview, new case study. There is no limit to how many times you can attempt screening, but the 30-day waiting period applies after each failed attempt.
Working and Pay
How much does the work pay?
Pay varies by discipline and task complexity. Software engineers and technical specialists typically earn $30-80/hour. Medical and legal professionals are generally in the $40-90/hour range. Language experts vary widely based on language rarity — specialists in low-resource languages often command significantly higher rates. Most active contributors working 10-15 hours per week earn $400-1,200/week.
When and how do I get paid?
Payments are processed every Friday and deposited directly to your account. The first payment typically arrives 7-10 days after your first task submission due to initial processing. After that, payments are on the weekly Friday cycle. You do not need to send invoices — the platform handles payment logistics automatically.
How many hours do I need to commit?
There is no minimum commitment. You work when you want, on the tasks that are available. Some contributors work 5 hours a week; others work 25. The only constraint is task availability, which varies by discipline and time period. There are no attendance requirements and no penalties for weeks where you do not work.
Can I work on multiple roles?
Yes, once screened and matched you can take on tasks from multiple active roles simultaneously, subject to availability. Most contributors find one or two active engagements is the right balance to maintain quality. Accepting tasks across roles does not affect your pay rate on any individual role.
Can I stop working whenever I want?
Yes. There are no minimum commitments, no notice periods, and no penalties for stopping. If you stop accepting tasks, your access to the dashboard remains active for 90 days. You can resume at any time during that window without going through screening again.
Data and Privacy
What happens to my work?
Your contributions become part of AI training datasets used by the companies we work with. The work goes through Nextmark.ai quality review before reaching the end client. Nothing you submit is attributed to you publicly, and your work is not used for any purpose outside the specific project it was collected for. All contributors sign an NDA that covers the full scope of work.
Is my personal information safe?
Your personal data is handled in accordance with standard data protection practices. We collect only what is necessary to manage your contractor relationship: name, email, payment information, and work history on the platform. We do not sell personal data to third parties. The AI companies we work with do not receive your personal information — only your anonymized work product.
Who are the AI companies?
We do not publicly disclose our client list. The end clients are large technology companies building commercial AI applications in fields including healthcare, legal, engineering, and language. All clients are subject to Nextmark.ai contractual standards covering data use, confidentiality, and ethical AI development practices.
Do I need to sign an NDA?
Yes. All contributors sign a non-disclosure agreement before starting work. The NDA covers the specific projects you work on, the AI companies involved, and the content of tasks. It is a standard professional NDA — nothing unusually restrictive. You will have the opportunity to review it before signing.
